Cold compression reduces the pain in specific joints. Fill a plastic bag with crushed ice and place it on the area where pain is being felt. Even alternate heat and cold compresses are most helpful in relieving from the pain. Soak your feet in warm water for three minutes and then them in cold water for one minute. Repeat it for three times before finishing the warm water soak.
Epsom salt when mixed in the bath water or in a tub of warm water helps in reducing swelling and relieves from aching joints.
Lack of calcium in the body is the main cause for osteoarthritis. Take enough calcium. 1000 mg of calcium per day for women and 1300 mg of calcium for men is considered ideal. Orange juice helps in meeting the daily requirements of calcium.
