Home remedies for Thyroid
Thyroid is an endocrine gland that is mainly responsible for the proper functioning of metabolism rate in human system. The production of hormones, proteins and sensitivity of hormones to each other are the chief functions of thyroid gland. It is said to be malfunctioned, when the production of hormones exceeds or falls down from its normal limit. The condition is then said to be hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.

Yoga or meditation must be included in daily life for balancing the functioning of the said gland and calming the body and mind.
Kelp, a highly rich mineral in iodine is necessary for proper functioning of the thyroid gland. It is effective only when some deficiency is found. Do consult an expert before consuming it.
Lemon is good for normalising the functioning of thyroid gland. Prepare a lemon tea or use it in diet.
Products consisting of white flour or other products rich in sugar should be strictly avoided.
Cakes, pastries, sweets and other fat rich products should also be avoided as much as possible. Say not to fleshy and greasy foods.
Coconut oil is highly beneficial for maintaining the overall thyroid health. The triglycerides present in this saturated fat helps in increasing the metabolism rate and also helps in controlling weight.
Fruits, sprouts and vegetables should be included in the diet.
Vitamin A is said to be good for people having thyroid problems. So, opt for pumpkin, green leafy vegetables and carrots.
Walnut helps in balanced functioning of the gland because of the presence of iodine and magnesium in it. Sea weeds can also be taken in the diet as a garnishing item in salad as well as in soup.
Cucumber is the most beneficial item to be consumed in salad. It helps a lot for patients diagnosed from hypothyroidism.
Sometimes people having thyroid abnormalities are advised to go on fast wherein only juices are allowed. Concept behind this is cleansing of the entire system. Juices of the fruits such as apple, grapes and pineapples are highly recommended.
In order to consume carbohydrate, avoid rice and include whole wheat in the diet. Barley and oats can also be included in the diet.
Prepare an herbal tea with a touch of ginger. Herbal tea is the best substitute for coffee, team carbonated drinks and alcohol.
