Kapalbhati Pranayama is another one of the famous Yoga breathing exercise that dates back to a thousand years. It helps in keeping the entire body fit and active. Diseases that cannot be cured by even the most brilliant machines and medicines of medical science like asthma, cancer and diabetes also benefits hugely from this Pranayama. Many consider Kapalbhati to be a Sanjeevani that infuses life in the body making it active, energetic and fit.
The term Kapalbhati has been formed by the coming together of two Sanskrit words – Kapal meaning forehead and Bhati meaning light.
Like Anuloma Vilom Pranayama, Kapalbhati pranayam should also be ideally practiced early in the morning on an empty stomach or after a gap of five hours post meal. One should wait for at least 20 minutes before eating food after doing this Pranayama, however small amounts of water can be taken if required at any point of time.
Procedure – How to Practice Kapalbhati Pranayam
Practicing Kapalbhati pranayam is easy. It is just a process by which you inhale normally and exhale forcefully so as to activate the organs in the abdominal area of the body. All you have to do is sit in a comfortable position on the floor or if that’s a problem on a chair, though the floor is the best place. Inhale normally and exhale forcefully, keep the body calm, relaxed and sans any stress. As a beginner the force of exhalation can be slow but you need to build up the momentum with time. As and when you feel tired you can take a break by breathing naturally. Once per second is the best frequency for Kapabhati.

When exhaling forcefully the organs in our abdominal area also moves upwards and down thereby become active and receiving a full supply of fresh air. When exhaling with force one should imagine that all the impurities that have collected in the body are being thrown out. It is not just about curing diseases, those of us who have a lot of pent up anger, frustration, greed, and ego etc should also practice Kapalbhati Pranayama and throw away these negative energies and invite positive influences to the body. Once rid of all the negative energy you will see that the body automatically becomes light, active and your thoughts become pure and positive. Kapalbhati Pranayam keeps your body healthy, improves your concentration power and also helps you in fighting with hair loss problem. It also glow your face screen and makes you gorgeous. It also helps in curing sinusitis problem completely. With the combination of Anulom Vilom Pranayam and Kapalbhati Pranayam you can also control cancer disease, as claimed by Swami Baba Ramdev.
Precautions
Everybody can practice Kapalbhati pranayam irrespective of their age groups. However it should be avoided by pregnant ladies, people with high blood pressure and those suffering from diseases related to the heart. The best place to practice is in a clean and serene environment like a river bank or a lush garden where there is a lot of fresh air.
