Obesity is a health hazard and one of the most common problems faced by people today. It is not a problem that comes with age; there are many children who suffer from it as well. Obesity is a condition when the body puts on weight abnormally thereby making the body look disproportionate. It could result from poor eating habits or could be a physical disorder as well. Ramdev Baba recognizes this problem and has taught various yoga exercises to counter this problem. His exercises help you breathe deeply because of which you are able to burn the excess fat in your body.

There are in all 7 pranayams advocated by Baba Ramdev. Each of these Pranayams help you maintain balance and burn the extra calories that have become a pain in your life.


The most important and most effective pranayama is Kapalbhati Pranayama and then there are the rest that include Bhastrika Pranayama, Bahava Pranayama, Anulom Vilom Pranayama, Bhramri Pranayama, Udgeeth Pranayama and Pranav pranayama. Apart from these Pranayamas he also recommends cycling while lying down as a very effective exercise to keep your weight in check.

What we eat is always reflected in our body and hence Baba Ramdev also has recommended diets for people with obesity issues:


Ramdev Baba’s diet for obesity:

Eat one roti only with green vegetables. From eating 4-5 meals a day stick to just two meals and if you feel hungry in between stick to salads and fresh fruit juices. Stay away from dried food and curries that have butter in them.

Ramdev Baba’s medicine for obesity:

Divya Medohar Vati: The main ingredients of this medicine include natural elements like pure guggulu, Shilajita Sat, harad, baheda, amalaki, nishoth, vidanga etc. Since it contains natural minerals and herbs there are no side effects.

Divya Medohar Vati checks the digestive system and removes all irregularities from there and then it burns the excess body fats thereby making the body fitter. The Basic function that this medicine solves is that it converts the excess fat to tissues and hence the body becomes more compact.

Apart from obesity this medicine is also said to help in checking thyroid problems, rheumatism and arthritis, knee pain and pain in other joint areas.

Usage: Divya Medohar Vati should be taken an hour before or after meals with hot water. Recommended dosage is 1-2 tablets twice or thrice a day depending on your body size and how much weight you want to lose.

Divya Triphala Guggulu: The main ingredients include gugullu resin, amalaki bibhitaki fruit, haritaki fruit, pipalli fruit.

This is one of the classic ayurvedic medicines with natural healing powers. Triphala is a great detoxifying agent while guggulu penetrates deeply and has a great cleansing effect. Together the two agents penetrate the tissues and remove toxins in the tissues thereby decongesting the channels in our body. It is very effective in weight loss because it ignites the digestive system, makes metabolism more effective and releases extra fast tucked away in our body. It is also widely used to take care of cholesterol related problems, joint pains, muscle pain, arthritis and rheumatism.

Usage: 1-2 tablets to be taken with hot water or milk once a day.

Divya Peya: We are a tea drinking nation. Our day does not start unless we have that first cup of chai. However, for people suffering with obesity this first cup maybe adding more toxins and fats to your body and you may not even be aware of it. Hence Ramdev Baba has come up with Divya Peya herbal tea which is the perfect and healthy substitute for tea.

The main ingredients include ela, teja patra, dalchini, lavanga, chandana, jati patri, marica, rose flower, ashwagandha, rohisha, sunthi, mishreya, pippali, brahmi, tulsi etc

Usage: Prepare it like how you would prepare regular tea. Boil longer than the common tea because the more you boil the more effective the herbs become. That done, add sugar as per your taste. Since this is an alternative to regular chai, drink it every time you crave for a warm cup of chai.
