Presentation has never been as important as it is in the 21st century. With all other pressures that we deal with at home, work or elsewhere, we also have to deal with the pressures of not fitting into the stereotypes that we have created. Hence people undertake drastic measures like dieting to the extent of being anaemic and bulimic, getting surgery done on your face and other body parts. Yoga is against all this. What can be fixed with regular exercises and natural processed should not be done at a clinic under a serious surgery that may leave you dependent on a doctor or a machine for the rest of your life.
Like there are several exercises for weight loss and shaping the body, there are also many such exercises for the face. Face Yoga helps make your facial muscles firm and gives your face a natural glow. As we grow older we develop wrinkles under our eyes, on the sides of our lips etc and yoga has some specific exercises that can help us in smoothening these wrinkles.
To smooth the lines in the forehead and the brow: Rub your temples with your knuckles. Start rubbing from the centre of your head and move towards the temples gradually. Massage for about two minutes.
To get rid of dark circles under your eyes: Gently rub the outside of the nostrils. Doing this helps release the toxins that are responsible for the under eye circles.
For detoxifying the skin: Press your index finger against the apple of your cheeks.
To release facial tension: From the centre of the forehead sweep your fingers outwards then place your fingers on the eye sockets and sweep your fingers downwards towards your cheeks. Repeat thrice.
To brighten up the colour of your skin: Pull your upper earlobes upwards four times, and then pull your lower earlobes downwards four times as well. Also pull your middle lobe towards the sides three times. This increases the circulation of fluids to your face.
Face Yoga for work:
Sitting all day and working on the computer can not only be stressful but also very detrimental to your eyes and your appearance. The body needs occasional rests which it cannot get at work. Hence there are small and simple face yoga techniques that can help you unwind and will also be able to release the stress from your face.
Face Yoga for the nose: This is a simple exercise that is advocated by many Yoga experts. To perform just close your right nostril with your thumb and breathe through your left nostril, Inhale through the left nostril for about four seconds. Once that is done close your left nostril with your left thumb and exhale through the right nostril. Exhale for about five seconds. Then inhale through the right nostril and exhale through the right one.
Face Yoga for the eyes: This helps reduce the strain caused by working on a computer for long hours and also strengthens the muscles in your eyes. Locate various objects at different distances, focus on one of them and defocus, then focus on anther and defocus again. Repeat this for several objects. This will firstly break the constant strain that your eye has taken due to looking at one direction and one distance for a long time. Not just that it can also slower the process of your vision going weaker.
