Ramdev Baba’s Yoga for the stomach

Some just want to tone them; some have to reduce them by a notch, while for some that heavy belly is a constant nightmare. At some point all of us have had problems with our stomach. We want them in perfect shape and in perfect proportion, yet somehow, either because of our food habits or our lifestyle most of us have to struggle to keep it under check.

Ramdev Baba comes to the rescue yet again. With his easy to do exercises we can get a flat tummy without having to get under the knife or starving ourselves to the point of being anorexic. Yoga is a natural healing process. So, whether it is a stomach ailment, or toning the stomach or reducing it by a few inches Yoga comes in handy for all cases.

The extra fat tucked away in your belly can be reduced with the help of pranayamas, asanas and yoga exercises. While the result will come in slowly, it will be natural and hence you will not have to deal with any side effects. Yoga burns the extra calories thereby reducing the extra fat stored in your stomach and giving you the perfect figure.

For a flat stomach, you have to practice those exercises that are designed to work on your abdominal muscles and get you to good shape. There are single or double yoga lifts, criss- cross legs etc that are some of the popularly practiced yoga exercise for a flat tummy.

Single yoga lifts are simple and easy to do. Lie flat on the ground and place the palms of your hand behind so as to rest your posterior. Now, lift your left keg straight up and make sure that you knees are straight as well. Your legs should be at a 90 degree angle. Inhale while doing this and then exhale while bringing your leg down. Repeat this same exercise with the right leg. Take rest and then repeat the process.

Double yoga lifts are is when you lift both the legs straight without bending your knees and. The 90 degrees should be maintained by both the legs and while at this position inhale deeply and then exhale while bringing it down. These lifts work wonders for your abdomen and help get them in that perfect shape you have desired for a long time.

A Criss-cross leg is like the double lift but here the legs are crossed at the ankle to give the sides of the stomach muscle adequate toning.

Some of the asanas practiced for acquiring a flat stomach are as below:

Pavan muktasan: Lie down on your back and bend both your knees such that they touch your chest. Now lock your palms tightly around your knees and keep it in contact with the chest. Now, lift your head such that your nose touches the knees. Now while in the pose hold your breath for about 30 seconds and then come back to your original position. This completes one pavan muktasan cycle.

Bhujangasan: Lie down flat on your stomach and place your hands under your shoulders like as if you are ready for a push up. Now using your back muscles raise your upper body while also taking your head upwards. Hold this pose for about 30 seconds and then come back to your original position while lowering your back first.

The Bow asana:  This is a more complex version of the bhujangasana. Like bhujangasana lie flat on your stomach and place your palms below your shoulders. Now raise your upper body and while doing that also bend your legs upwards. Now bend your knees such that your feet come closer to your head. Hols your ankles with your hands and pull them with your hands while pushing them with your legs till you stomach touches the floor. Your body will be in a somewhat circular pose. Hold this position for about 30 seconds and then release.

Paad-Pashchimottanasan: Lie down on your back, keep your legs straight and your arms above your head. Your body should be absolutely straight. Now put your hands together and lift it up towards the ceiling. Using the muscles in your stomach try and sit up with your back straight and your hands above your head. Once this is done, bend forward and try to hold your toes with your hands keeping your head between your arms so that when you bend it touches your knees. Stay in this position for about two minutes.

These asanas, if done regularly and correctly will help you get that perfect stomach that will be the envy of all around you.
